Bounces go Century's way in victory

GARDEN GROVE – The ball could not have taken a more fortuitous bounce for Century linebacker Jesse Carrasco.

As La Quinta quarterback Zakk Morgan lost control of the football as he was being tackled, Carrasco was there to catch the bouncing football. Carrasco then sped down the field, returning it 55 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter to punctuate a brilliant defensive night for Century.

The Centurions held La Quinta to just 114 offensive yards and forced three turnovers in a 20-0 victory at Bolsa Grande High on Thursday.

“We played our roles perfectly and just never let up,” Century coach Ted Crego said.

Carrasco also recovered a fumble on the opening drive for La Quinta (0-1). The Centurions (1-0) allowed just two first downs in the first half.

Century got on the board in the second quarter when quarterback David Escamilla completed a 32-yard touchdown pass to tight end Luis Cuadros. In the second quarter, Century scored on an 18-yard reception by Eduardo Caudillo.
