GARDEN GROVE ARGONAUTS

Coach: Ricardo Cepeda (1st year)

Last season: 13-1 overall, 5-0 league

Scouting report: Ricardo Cepeda moves from defensive coordinator to head coach, replacing Willy Puga who resigned. Cepeda is also the Argonauts’ baseball coach. The Argonauts have made consecutive trips to the CIF-SS Southern Division finals, but have lost both times to Corona del Mar. Their nemesis has moved to the Southwest Division. Junior Danny Avila and senior Josh Green are in competition for the starting quarterback job. The offense is still loaded with playmakers, including receivers Austen Christian, Alejandro Ceja and Reily Hoalton. Those three players are also a formidable trio in the secondary; they combined for 18 interceptions last year. The Argonauts recorded six shutouts last season and figure to field another strong defense this season.
