Outlook: This is the fifth finals appearance for the Eagles and their first since 2003. After winning the CIF-SS Division 1 title, the Eagles had relative ease in capturing the regional title, losing just one set in three matches. Senior outside hitter Meghan McClure averaged 19 kills in the SoCal Regional playoffs. Sarah Ciszek and Abby Van Winkle will also figure into the attack led by junior setter Devon Chang. Libero Julianna Reisinger and defensive specialist Gretchen Reinert are also important to Santa Margarita’s success. Archbishop Mitty is in search of their 13th state title and fifth consecutive. The Monarchs have won the previous four Division II state titles. The teams met earlier this season at the Durango Fall Classic. The Monarchs swept the Eagles, 25-20, 25-21 in the semifinals. Santa Margarita eventually finished third. Archbishop Mitty defeated Xavier Prep of Arizona in the finals. Senior libero Kate Formico is headed to Stanford and senior middle blocker Candice Denny is going to Arizona. They’re two of the three seniors on the Monarchs’ roster. Juniors Nicole Liddle (342 kills), Julia Devine (318) and Kamrin Caoili (317) are the top three kill leaders for the Monarchs.
