Failed two-point conversion costs Canyon
Fullerton hangs on for a 21-20 victory when the Comanches' last-play pass falls incomplete.
FULLERTON - Canyon football coach Brent McKee gambled and lost in the Comanches’ 21-20 nonleague loss to Fullerton on Friday night at Fullerton District Stadium.
Canyon’s Nick Prescott hauled in a 10-yard touchdown pass from Beau Perry with no time left on the clock to get the Comanches within 21-20.
The Comanches opted for the two-point conversion, but Perry’s pass fell incomplete and the Indians hung on for the victory in the opener for both squads.
Canyon started its final drive on the 50-yard line with 1:10 left in the game and snapped the ball on its scoring play with four seconds remaining.
“We just wanted to win it or lose it,” McKee said of his decision to go for two. “We came up short this time, but you don’t win from being conservative.”
Perry completed 16 of 22 passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns, all to Prescott, who finished with 11 receptions for 174 yards.
After sitting out the first half, Fullerton quarterback Dominic Ficociello came off the bench and threw a 62-yard touchdown pass to Vincent Molina on the Indian’s first drive of the second half.
Joseph Hill carried 25 times for 102 yards for Fullerton.
The Indians accumulated more than 100 yards in penalties.
