OCVarsity’s season preview for 2016:

CALVARY CHAPEL EAGLES

Coach: Chris Cox

Last season: 7-5 overall, 5-0 league

Scouting report: Calvary Chapel has to replace several key players from last year’s prolific and senior-laden offense, but the Eagles have high expectations. Senior quarterback Sam Lak excelled last season as a backup, completing 56.5 precent of his passes and leading a crucial second-half comeback against Godinez. The entire offensive line returns, which could benefit Lak as well as the team’s running backs, Daniel Nava, Kieran Heddington and Kaden Heddington. Seniors Marcus Time and Shane Martinez should lead the charge on the defensive line.

Bottom line: Calvary Chapel has the potential to repeat as league champions and fulfill its goal of going deeper into the playoffs, but the Eagles need new players to keep that offensive machine going.

Players to watch: Sam Lak, QB, Sr.; Kieran Heddington, WR/RB, Sr.; Marcus Time, DL, Sr.; Shane Martinez, DT, Sr.; Daniel Nava, RB/SS, Jr.; Kaden Heddington, RB, So.
