COSTA MESA – Calvary Chapel and Bassett of La Puente entered Friday night’s matchup expecting a shootout, as their two fast-paced offenses were set to face off at Estancia High.

The game lived up to its billing for the first quarter, but Calvary Chapel was able to pull away late for an impressive 46-16 victory in a nonleague contest.

After a close first half that ended with the Eagles leading 19-10, Calvary Chapel got going early in the third quarter behind two touchdown passes from senior Patrick Glasgow.

Glasgow finished the game 22 of 29 for 265 yards, four touchdowns and one interception.

The running game was also successful for the Eagles, as seniors Braeden Stack and Isaiah Bustillos both reached the end zone. Stack was an especially dominant force in the second half for the Eagles, rushing five times for 65 yards and two late scores.

Stack finished with two rushing touchdowns and a receiving touchdown, including a 55-yard scamper that put the game out of reach with 3:12 remaining.

The Eagles were able to pull away in large part because of their defense as well, picking off two passes by Monarchs quarterback Marcus Ruiz and sacking him four times.

Ruiz finished 13 of 24 for 155 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Chris Cabral was a workhorse throughout the game, running 21 times for 107 yards.

Calvary Chapel will head to Ontario Christian next week.
