OC Varsity’s preview of the CIF Southern California Regional championship games on Saturday.

BOYS SOCCER

DIVISION 3

EL DORADO (19-7-5) vs. MONTGOMERY of SAN DIEGO (18-3-4)
Where, when: at Valencia High, Saturday, 6 p.m.
Outlook: The top-seeded Golden Hawks will play for a regional championship for the first time in school history. The Golden Hawks scored nine goals in the first two games of the tournament, but their strength is defense. Since their 18-game unbeaten streak began, they have shut out 10 of their opponents and haven’t given up more than one goal in any game. But the Golden Hawks’ backline, led by center back Connor Veronese, might be tested in the championship as Montgomery has scored nine goals in the regionals. This match will end a whirlwind day for El Dorado coach Steve McManus. The club team he coaches is playing in a Las Vegas and has two games scheduled on Saturday, one at 9 a.m. and the other at noon.
