Mater Dei senior Malik McMorris has committed as a preferred walk-on to Cal, the senior said Friday night. He also will throw for the track team.
He said Cal recruited him mostly as a defensive lineman.
“Berkeley and UCLA have been my dream schools,” said McMorris, who was a defensive lineman/fullback for the Monarchs. “Division 1 football was part of it (the decision), but the education was just as important, and being able to play both sports at the highest level has been my goal.”
He said he is interested in majoring in communications or sociology.
McMorris had several scholarship offers, including ones from Holy Cross, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, UC Davis, Azusa Pacific and Virginia Union.
