FULLERTON — Kate Goostrey’s layup at the buzzer in overtime lifted Rosary to a 76-75 victory over Twentynine Palms in a CIF-Southern Section 2AA playoff game Wednesday night on the Royals’ court.

Alexandra Iannone rebounded a missed free throw by the Wildcats’ Tatiyanna Mackall with 5.7 seconds remaining and dribbled into the front court. The senior point guard passed to Goostrey, who was cutting toward the basket from the left, and the 5-foot-8 freshman connected on the uncontested shot.

“We dodged a bullet tonight,” Rosary coach Richard Yoon said. “If (Mackall) had made the second free throw, I was thinking of calling a timeout. But when Alexandra rebounded the ball, I decided to let her try to make a play in the open court.”

Rosary (23-5) will play at JSerra on Saturday in the semifinals.

“I didn’t think we played well at all,” Yoon said. “We didn’t bring our A game. The best thing about this win is we get a chance to play again.”

Rosary led, 58-45, with 5:45 to play, but Twentynine Palms (25-4) outscored the Royals, 21-8, to tie the score at 66 in regulation. The Wildcats’ Destiny Dedmon made a defended turnaround 40-footer at the buzzer to put the game into overtime.

Camille Lira’s driving layup and free throw put Rosary on top, 72-69. Bryn Boznanski’s offensive board and bucket expanded it to 74-69.

Twentynine Palms scored the next five points, two on free throws by Lindsey Scamman and a 3-pointer by Dedmon, to tie it at 74.

Following a Rosary turnover, Mackall was fouled. She made the first free throw and missed the second, opening the door for Goostrey’s layup.

Lira, a 5-10 senior, led Rosary with 24 points and Goostrey had 20.
