Zach Brogdon is the new varsity boys basketball head coach at JSerra, the school announced Friday.

Brogdon, 28, coached at Capistrano Valley Christian the past six seasons. His CVC teams were 125-46 during his tenure.

Capo Valley Christian finished 23-8 overall and tied Saddleback Valley Christian for the league championship this past season. The Eagles advanced to the CIF-Southern Section Division 5A semifinals. The Eagles qualified for the CIF Southern California Regionals in which they lost in the first round in Division V.

“It is an honor and a blessing to be the Head Boys Basketball Coach at JSerra Catholic High School,” Brogdon said in a statement released by the school. “I am very excited to be part of a school dedicated to forming the faith, intellect, and character of young men and women in everything they do.”

At JSerra, Brogdon replaces Joedy Gardner, who was not retained after the 2015-16 season, Gardener’s seventh at JSerra. The Lions finished 18-11 overall and advanced to the 4AA quarterfinals. In the Trinity League, they were 2-8 for a fifth-place finish in the six-team league.

Brogdon held a few posts at Capistrano Valley Christian’s schools. He was the high school girls athletic director and was elementary and junior high athletid director, and was director of student life.
