He was tournament MVP of the Irvine World News/Gary Raya Classic. Brodbeck, a 6-foot-5 senior guard, scored 36 points with five 3-pointers in the Aztecs’ 60-57 win over San Clemente in the tournament championship game. He is averaging 25 points and eight rebounds a game. Brodbeck is shooting 46 percent from the floor while averaging 18 shots a game. Esperanza next plays Pasadena on Friday at 12:10 p.m. in the first round of the Orange Holiday Classic at Hope University in Fullerton.
