GARDEN GROVE – Jonathan and Jorge Briseno proved to be an effective combination Thursday night as Santa Ana defeated Bolsa Grande, 42-7, in a nonleague game at Bolsa Grande High.

Quarterback Jonathan Briseno rushed for 205 yards and a touchdown, and his twin brother, Jorge, scored three touchdowns for the Saints (3-2).

Bolsa Grande (0-5) marched 69 yards in nine plays on the opening possession of the game to take a 7-0 lead. Andres Arreola capped the drive with a 6-yard touchdown run.

After struggling early the Saints put together an 11-play, 76-yard scoring drive midway through the second quarter. Jorge Briseno raced in from 10 yards to tie the score at 7-7.

Jonathan Briseno propelled the Saints into the lead with a 36-yard scoring run as Santa Ana took a 14-7 halftime lead.

Santa Ana scored three touchdowns in the third quarter to take control. Jorge Briseno added touchdown runs of 5 and 43 yards and Fabian Martinez scored on a 2-yard run as the Saints led, 35-7, after three quarters. Martinez added a short TD run in the fourth quarter.

Santa Ana’s defense, led Ramiro Valdivias and Kevin Ceja, sacked Anthony Porras seven times in the game.

Christian Najera led the Matadors with 74 yards rushing.
