HUNTINGTON BEACH – Brethren Christian got off to a tremendous start to the season on Friday night after defeating its nonleague opponent Riverside Prep, 62-0.

With just two and a half minutes gone by in the first quarter, Brethren’s Jordan Leonard scored 9 yards out, giving the Warriors a 7-0 advantage.

Shortly after, Ryan Park made a heads-up play on defense by recovering a fumble and setting up the Warriors with excellent field position.

Following a second Warriors touchdown, senior quarterback Bobby Conklin dashed 77 yards for a touchdown to give Brethren Christian a 21-0 lead with four minutes left to play in the first quarter.

Brethren Christian (1-0) eventually finished the first half with a 42-0 lead.

Following the break, Conklin went 2 for 2 on their opening drive, setting up Leonard for his third touchdown run.

The Warriors crossed the goal line twice more before the end of the night with the final touchdown coming from freshman Raimon Sagastume.

Conklin finished his Brethren Christian debut by completing 6 of 9 passes for 157 yards and three total touchdowns.

Leonard led the Warriors in rushing with 91 yards on just six carries.

Brethren Christian’s Josh Gorell finished the night with a rushing touchdown and a 33-yard receiving touchdown.

Riverside Prep (0-1) senior quarterback Owen McClure led the option attack for the Silver Knights and finished the night with 66 all-purpose yards.
