HUNTINGTON BEACH – Brethren Christian quarterback Conner Miller threw five touchdown passes to lead the Warriors to a 42-21 victory over Calvary Chapel of Downey in an Academy League game Friday at Ocean View High.

Miller, who entered the game with a county-leading 26 TD passes, was 16 of 23 passing for 242 yards. His main target was Guy Demazeliere, who finished with 182 receiving yards and three touchdown receptions.

Miller started the game with two scoring passes – 67 and 16 yards – to Demazeliere in the first 13 minutes.

Calvary Chapel responded with a 3-yard touchdown run by senior running back Sam Arcalas with 7:38 left to go in the half.

At that point, Brent Nash took matters into his own hands for Brethren Christian (5-1-1, 1-0).

Nash caught two touchdown passes and intercepted a Calvary Chapel pass during the last six minutes of the first half.

After being down, 28-7, at the break, Calvary Chapel scored on Angel Solorza’s 76-yard run on its first drive of the half.

Miller threw his fifth touchdown pass late in the third quarter, giving Brethren a 35-14 lead.

Nathan Sagastume gave Brethren a 42-14 lead with a 1-yard scoring run.
