This time there was no dramatic comeback by Brea Olinda.

Northwood didn’t give the Wildcats the chance.

Malcom Overbaugh scored a golden goal off a long throw from Byce Edstrom in the second minute of the second overtime period to beat host Brea Olinda, 1-0, in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 3 boys soccer playoffs Thursday.

Four times in the last two weeks of the season, the Wildcats rallied to post a come-from-behind victory on their way to claiming a share of the North Hills League championship. But the Timberwolves (15-5-3) never let the Wildcats (13-9-3) mount much of an attack Thursday.

Northwood will face the winner of Salesian of L.A.-California of Whittier in the second round Wednesday.

“I am very happy. We deserved it,” Lancaster said. “We can give anyone a good game on any given day.”

Brea’s only chance to score came in the in the 12th minute when Bennett Hawkins took a shot from the top of the box, but the ball sailed just inches above the crossbar.
