BREA – Brea Olinda snapped a scoreless tie with a field goal and a touchdown in the fourth quarter to defeat Yorba Linda, 10-7, in a nonleague game Friday night at Brea Olinda High.

Brea Olinda defensive lineman Brandon Legendre used his 6-foot-4 frame to reach up and tip a pass by Yorba Linda quarterback Kamren Freck to himself and returned it 40 yards to the Mustangs’ 3-yard line early in the final period.

Yorba Linda (2-4) held the Wildcats (3-3) to minus-2 yards on three downs and Brea Olinda’s Logan Bouvier kicked a 26-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead with 9:19 remaining.

The Mustangs drove to the Brea Olinda 47 before failing to make a first down.

On the next play, Brea Olinda quarterback Nick Drury connected with Noah Rivera for a 47-yard gain to the Yorba Linda 6. Two plays later, Zach Arnold caught Drury’s pass in the left flat and ran for a 7-yard touchdown with 5:29 remaining.

Yorba Linda responded with an 80-yard, eight-play scoring drive.

Freck completed passes of 13 and 19 yards to Logan Venero, followed by a 23-yarder to Zack Sowder to move to the Brea Olinda 9-yard line. On third down, Freck completed a 7-yard touchdown pass to Sowder and Sowder’s PAT cut the Wildcats’ lead to 10-7 with 3:10 remaining.

Yorba Linda forced a three-and-out possession for Brea, but used up its timeouts on defense. The Mustangs took over possession at their 33.

Freck threw deep on first down and Malik Campbell’s interception sealed the victory for Brea.

Brea had a 64-yard march to the Yorba Linda 20 in the first quarter, but on second-and-11 from the 21, linebacker Dillon Price intercepted Drury’s pass and returned it 48 yards to the Brea 41.

Yorba Linda drove to the Brea Olinda 17, but Sowder missed a 33-yard field-goal attempt early in the second quarter.
