CARNEGIE OF RIVERSIDE (17-6) VS. PACIFICA CHRISTIAN (23-3)

Outlook: This is the first season of varsity basketball for Pacifica Christian, a private school in Newport Beach with an enrollment of 93. The Tritons, coached by former El Modena coach Jeffrey Berokoff, are led by freshman point guard Dominick Harris who is averaging 26 points a game. Another freshman, Cal Whitney, is scoring 18 points a game. In the playoffs, the second-seeded Tritons defeated Bethel Baptist in the first round, Valley Christian of Santa Maria in the second round, Cate of Carpinteria in the quarterfinals and Foothill Technology of Ventura in the semifinals. They bring an eight-game win streak into the final. Top-seeded Carnegie finished second in the Arrowhead League, defeated Big Pine in the first round, Mesrobian in the second round, Desert Christian of Lancaster in the quarterfinals and Pacifica Christian of Santa Monica in the semifinals. Both teams are in the state tournament by virtue of advancing to this championship game.
