Villa Park senior Garrett Corcoran, the CIF-SS Division 2 boys cross country champion, has committed to Cal, where he plans to compete in cross country and track and field.

“The coaches and guys on the team put a lot of hard work in pursuing me and letting me know how much they wanted me there,” Corcoran said.

“Cal has had a strong history in the middle distances and cross country and it was something that I wanted to be a part of.”

Corcoran was selected the Register’s boys cross country Athlete of the Year.

He plans to major in mechanical engineering.

AYERS HIRED

Former Orange Lutheran track and field coach and the Register’s 2013 Boys Track and Field Coach of the Year J.T. Ayers has been hired to be the boys track and field coach at Trabuco Hills, Mustangs athletic director Kurt Walker confirmed.

“We are excited to have a coach of J.T. Ayers’ caliber and success, but we are equally thrilled that he is back home to keep building the tradition of success in Mustangs Athletics,” Walker said.

Ayers guided Orange Lutheran’s boys to the CIF-SS Division 3 title last spring. The Lancers also tied for seventh place at the CIF State Championships.

“Coaching at Orange Lutheran for three years was a tremendous opportunity and allowed me to become a better leader,” Ayers said. “Returning to Trabuco Hills is like coming home to me.”
