Abram Booty resigned as football coach at Sage Hill, the school announced today.

Booty coached Sage Hill for only the 2015 season in which the Lightning finished 2-8 overall and 0-3 in the Academy League.

Sage Hill athletic director Megan Cid said Sage Hill will pursue fielding an 8-man team for the 2016 season.

“We looked at the current roster of players and the number of potential incoming players next year,” she said. “We decided we won’t have sufficient numbers to safely play 11-man football.”

Cid said Sage Hill might join an 8-man league or would play a freelance schedule.

Sage Hill’s departure from the Academy League leaves the Academy League with three members for 11-man football: Brethren Christian, Crean Lutheran and St. Margaret’s. The league would have to add a fourth member for the ’16 season.

Booty’s successor will be the school’s fourth football head coach in as many years. In 2014, Tom Kirchmeyer replaced J.R. Tolver who resigned just two weeks before the team’s first game. Kirchmeyer, an interim coach, was replaced by Booty for the ’15 season.

Over the past four seasons, Sage Hill is 10-31 overall and 2-12 in the Academy League.
