IRVINE – Homecoming night didn’t go as planned at University High on Friday.

Visiting Beckman scored 21 consecutive points in the third quarter to pull away for a 40-10 Pacific Coast League victory over University.

Trailing 19-0 at halftime, University (3-4, 0-2) scored on its first drive of the second half when Wesley Jordan found Allahsan Jenkins for a 66-yard touchdown pass. But Beckman (4-3, 1-1) responded quickly and often after that.

Demetrius Goods returned the ensuing kickoff 56 yards to set up a 33-yard touchdown pass from JT Manber to Logan Garrick and a 26-7 Beckman lead.

Beckman then surprised University with an onside kick that was recovered by Garrick.

“We’ve given up some leads this year,” Beckman coach Glen Fisher said. “We can’t afford to not play.”

Five plays later, Tyrone Perkins scored from 17 yards out for a 33-7 lead.

Anthony Olivares intercepted University’s next pass, and Ryan Sinkking pulled in another interception for Beckman on the next University drive.

Sinkking returned his interception to the University 5-yard line, and Manber scored three plays later on a 1-yard run. Beckman led, 40-7, through three quarters.

Manber and I’Jon Akahi had touchdown runs and Dean Nagle threw a touchdown pass to Noah Lee in the first half for Beckman.
