CARLOS DELGADO, FOR THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER
Beckman quarterback Cameron Biedgoly, left, hands the ball off to running back Jeff Kim in the first half during a CIF Southern Division semifinal playoff football game between Beckman and Corona del Mar last year. The two players hope to lead the Patriots back to the CIF title game.

Kickoff 2011: Beckman starting lineup

OCVARSITY.COM

Last season record: 8-6 overall, 2-3 in Pacific Coast League (fifth)

Postseason: Beckman advanced to the CIF-SS Southern Division title game, losing to Garden Grove, 31-30. It was Beckman’s first trip to the finals.

Coach: Ken Mushinskie (first year).

Home stadium: Tustin High

Outlook: New coach Ken Mushinskie, who was head coach at M.L. King in Riverside, is excited about the team’s prospects and said his squad’s goal is a CIF championship. Mushinskie takes over for Fred Shambaugh, who resigned after three years at the end of the season. Beckman returns 12 starters (six on offense and six on defense), including Khodadod Kia on the line and Elijah Steen, who Mushinskie said is a hard-hitter, in the secondary. Offensively, Beckman is led by two of the top backs in the league quarterback Cameron Biedgoly and running back Jeff Kim. “The main concern this year is team depth and staying healthy,” Mushinskie said. If the team remains healthy, Mushinskie said, the Patriots will “once again find themselves at the top of the division.”

Factoid: Mushinskie is beginning his sixth year as a head coach. He has coached high school football for 15 years.

School record: 34-31-2
