Laguna Beach’s Turner sisters, sophomore Blake and freshman Reilyn, are making the most of their first time playing together.

Blake Turner scored two goals with one assist from Reilyn Turner, and Reilyn scored a goal on an assist from Blake as Laguna Beach beat Estancia, 3-1, in an Orange Coast League game at Estancia High on Thursday.

“Traditionally, Laguna Beach High School, being such a small school, we’ve always had to play a lot of defense, packing it in and looking for chances,” Laguna Beach coach Bill Rolfing said. “Now, we’ve got some offensive weapons. It’s changed our dynamics.”

Estancia (8-4-2, 3-1-0) has only four losses in its last 43 league games. Laguna Beach (12-3-2, 4-0-0) has been the winning team in all four of those games.

“We like this field for some reason,” Rolfing said. “We always seem to come here, in wind or rain or whatever, and are able to keep it very close.”

Estancia took a 1-0 lead 10 minutes into the game. An Estancia free kick attempt was punched out by the Laguna Beach keeper, and Karla Rodriguez collected the ball 27 yards out. Rodriguez sent a strike right back to the top right of the net for the lead.

At that point, the Turner sisters and Laguna Beach kicked into gear in transition.

“We’re really good at playing fast and reacting to stuff,” Blake Turner said. “The whole team is able to notice what’s happening and recombine and regroup in time to make something else positive happen for us.”

In the 24th minute, Blake Turner got a ball on the left side, cut to the right and shot to the left to even the score, 1-1.

Six minutes later, Reilyn Turner lobbed a high shot that the Estancia keeper couldn’t hold on to. Blake swooped in to put home the rebound for the lead, 2-1.

Blake set up Reilyn’s goal in the 50th minute. After receiving a long ball from Shea Skenderian, Blake flicked the ball onto Reilyn who ran right and shot left for the Breakers’ third goal.
