Outlook: Huntington Beach has put together a string of high-quality pitching performances, timely hitting and steady and at times spectacular defense to get to this championship game. Senior right-hander Noah Davis, who signed with UC Santa Barbara, is the Oilerrs’ likely starting pitcher. He is 6-2 with a 2.63 ERA. Huntington Beach senior first baseman Cooper Moore, a Utah signee, is batting .333 with 30 RBI. Senior center fielder Daniel Amaral, who signed with UCLA, is batting .406. Logan Pouelsen, another UCLA-bound Oiler, has a team-leading 34 RBI and is 4-1 on the mound. Landon Silver, on his way to UC Santa Barbara, has driven in 31 runs. The Oilers won the Sunset League championship and in the playoffs beat Roosevelt of Eastvale, 7-2, in the first round, Long Beach Wilson, 3-0, in the second round, El Dorado, 5-1, in the quarterfinals, and Norco, 4-0 in the semifinals. Huntington Beach is trying for its first CIF baseball championship. The Oilers lost to Crespi of Encino, 8-1, in their only previous CIF baseball final, in 2009. Hart won a CIF baseball title in 1999. The Indians take a nine-game winning streak into the championship game. Their playoff wins are over Alemany of Mission Hills, 3-0, in the first round, Calabasas, 3-0, in the second round, JSerra, 10-6, in the quarterfinals, and Foothill League rival Saugus, 3-2, in 10 innings in the semifinals. Hart senior Austin Russ, who signed with USC, is batting .380 with 23 RBI. He had two RBI in the win over JSerra. Hart beat JSerra when JSerra was ranked No. 1 in Orange County. Huntington Beach is No. 1 in the county top 10 this week. Like JSerra, Huntington Beach has a deep batting order that has been bunching hits in clutch situations in the playoffs.
