Freshman Ella Poljak finished with a 2-over-par 38 at Mile Square Golf Course to help Huntington Beach defeat Fountain Valley, 218-239, clinching its first Sunset League girls golf championship in school history.

“Really happy for the girls. They have been working so hard – in the classroom and on the golf course,” Huntington Beach coach Doug Flint said in an email. “From now on a banner will hang in the gym representing girls golf – there never was before. The players can always look up and know they put it there.”

Lilia Vu also carded a 38 on the front nine of the Classic Course for the Barons and shared medalist honors with Poljak

The Oilers have lost only one of the nine league matches they have played this season, falling to Newport Harbor, 214-228, at Costa Mesa Country Club on Sept. 23.

Huntington Beach (11-1, 8-1) will wrap up the regular season on Thursday at SeaCliff Country Club when the Oilers play host to Marina.
