Tesoro begins search for Barnes' replacement
Brian Barnes, placed on administrative leave as Tesoro’s football head coach late in the 2012 season, is now officially out as the school's coach.
School athletic director Gil Ramirez sent an email today stating that Tesoro is accepting applications for the varsity head coach position.
Tesoro did not give a reason for removing Barnes as its head coach on Oct. 30, which is typical for a personnel move.
Assistant coach John Hall was promoted to interim head coach. Hall coached the Titans to a nonleague victory over Chula Vista, and was the head coach when Tesoro was eliminated by St. John Bosco of Bellflower in the first round of the Pac-5 Division playoffs.
Tesoro is accepting applications through Feb. 11 from personnel within the Capistrano Unified School District and from outside of the district, Ramirez stated in an email.
The 2012 season was Barnes’ sixth coaching at Tesoro, where he had a 47-22 record. He coached Tesoro to a CIF-SS championship game and a 13-1 record in 2008.
Barnes, son of Los Alamitos coach John Barnes, previously was head coach at Estancia.
