OCVarsity preview for the 2015 season:
GARDEN GROVE ARGONAUTS
Coach: Ricardo Cepeda
Last season: 13-1 overall, 5-0 in league
Scouting report: The Argonauts appear to be the cream of the crop again in the Garden Grove League. The ground game is in good hands with Jordan Antunez returning. They return three All-CIF players and the linebacking corps. Daniel Orellana (94 tackles, two interceptions) is a name to watch on the defensive side of the ball. The experience gained from last season’s CIF-SS championship-winning team will serve them well during a tough nonleague schedule. A couple areas of concern are the offensive line (the Argonauts graduated four starters) and at quarterback. Ruben Mendoza and Danny Avila, both up from junior varsity, will compete for the starting job.
Bottom line: The Argonauts have what it takes to claim another Garden Grove League title before setting their sights on the CIF-SS Southern Division playoffs.
Players to watch: Jordan Antunez, RB, Sr.; Malik Bilal, WR/SS, Sr.; Juan Ossa, OG, Sr.; Nathan Garcia, DT, Sr.; Daniel Orellana, MLB, Sr.; Joseph Camarillo, RB, Sr.
