ANAHEIM – Kalolo Pangia rushed for 144 yards and scored two touchdowns, the last with just over three minutes remaining, to lead Magnolia to a 14-10 victory over Anaheim in an Orange League game Friday night at Glover Stadium.

The Sentinels (3-5, 1-2) ended a four-game losing streak and gave Coach Ryan Olson reason to believe his team can reel off a win streak and earn a playoff berth.

“We need to win three games in order to get to the playoffs,” Olson said. “This is the first.”

Ranked eighth in this week’s CIF-SS Southern Division poll, Anaheim (5-2, 2-1) grabbed a 10-7 lead late in the third quarter when Danny Vital kicked a 25-yard field goal.

Magnolia threatened to score early in the fourth quarter, but Pangia (22 carries) was stopped a yard short of a first down at the Anaheim 5-yard line. After Anaheim turned the ball back over to Magnolia on downs, the Sentinels marched 77 yards on seven plays before Pangia‘s go-ahead score.

Olson called a 49-yard pass from Fernando Garcia to Luis Dorado another key to the victory.

“We were able to move the ball but had trouble scoring,” he said. “That pass was critical, because it was the first time we completed that play all night.”
