ANAHEIM – It wasn’t that Anaheim lacked scoring opportunities … just scoring. But that changed late in the game for the Colonists, who scored on a pair of touchdown runs for a 13-0 victory over crosstown rival Loara in a nonleague game Friday night at Glover Stadium.

Anaheim (3-0) got down to the 1-yard line in the first half, but an interception ended that threat. Another try to get on the board fizzled at the end of the first half when a bad snap ruined a field-goal attempt.

The outlook brightened for the Colonists with 3:40 left in the third quarter. They marched 88 yards on 15 plays, ending the seven-minute drive on Kevin Montoy’s seven-yard run.

“We corrected the mistakes we made in the first half and ran the ball effectively,” said relieved Anaheim coach Lanny Booher.

The Colonists’ defense also got after Loara (0-5) quarterback Andrew Mendoza in the second half, recording three sacks and holding the Saxons to a total of 151 yards.

Jose Velasquez made it a two-TD game with 3:52 remaining, scoring on a 4-yard run. Mendoza’s 55-yard pass to Josh Moran gave Loara a last scoring chance before the drive fizzled.

Manny Covarrubias ran for 91 yards for Anaheim.
