GARDEN GROVE – With Santiago undefeated entering Friday’s game, Los Amigos coach Carl Agnew said his team was looking to “burst their bubble.”

Behind a bend-but-don’t-break defense and the county’s leading rusher, Los Amigos did just that in a 21-6 victory in the Garden Grove League opener for both teams at Garden Grove High.

Moby Contreras, who led Orange County with 917 yards rushing going into the game, finished with 29 carries for 270 yards and two touchdowns for Los Amigos.

After a fruitless six-minute opening drive by Santiago (5-1, 0-1), Los Amigos (3-3, 1-0) took a 6-0 lead on an 82-yard touchdown run by Contreras.

Santiago responded with another long drive, but fumbled at the Los Amigos 11-yard line.

Then after Santiago was stopped on fourth down, Los Amigos capped a string of eight consecutive running plays with a 20-yard touchdown run by Jose Olvera.

Santiago got favorable field position with a 68-yard return by Andy Tang on the ensuing kickoff, but again fumbled deep in Los Amigos territory.

Contreras scored again on a 61-yard run on the ensuing drive.
