In the Trinity League:
JSerra’s Kaitlyn Albertoli and Santa Margarita’s Katie McLaughlin qualified first-second in the 50-yard freestyle prelims at Santa Margarita to set the stage for a showdown between ex-teammates at Friday’s finals.
Albertoli qualified first in a season-best 23.22 seconds while McLaughlin claimed the No. 2 spot with a school-record and high school-best 23.36.
Albertoli ranks third in county history with a 22.91 while McLaughlin jumped from No. 17 to No. 10 in county history.
In the South Coast League prelims:
Capistrano Valley’s Brooke Lorentzen qualified first in the 500 free with a county-leading 4:52.37 in her home pool.
In the Academy League prelims:
Crean Lutheran’s Lindsey Engel qualified first for the 100 free finals with a league-record 51.03 at Kennedy. The Stanford-bound senior broke her 2011 league record of 51.79.
