Xolani Hodel sank two free throws with 21 seconds left and Huntington Beach’s girls basketball team knocked off ninth-ranked Los Alamitos, 48-46, in a first-place showdown in the Sunset League on Monday night at Los Alamitos High.

Hodel’s free throws capped a fourth-quarter comeback for the Oilers (15-6, 6-1), who trailed 37-29 entering the period.

Los Alamitos (16-5, 5-2) had a chance to tie the score with one second left but missed two free throws.

Frankie Wade led Huntington Beach with 20 points, Kaylyn Nakaji scored 12 and Hodel finished with 10. Cailyn Crocker led Los Alamitos with 18.

In the Sea View League:

Trabuco Hills 36, Dana Hills 32: Jordyn Carrido scored 15 points and the Mustangs won a first-place showdown at Dana Hills.

Trabuco Hills (13-7, 5-0) led 33-32 with 12 seconds left, but put it away with three free throws at the end.

Macie Saia scored 15 to lead Dana Hills (17-4, 3-1), which lost leading scorer Peyton Romo to an injury last week.
