Chris Adnams said he found it hard to stay positive throughout his round on Wednesday on his way to shooting a 13-over-par 84 at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach, but then the Villa Park senior thought about where he was at and realized it was an honor just to be playing there.

Adnams was the only county golfer to qualify for Wednesday’s CIF State championship in which he finished 49th.

“It’s a great golf course to play, definitely a challenge,” Adnams said. “At the (SCGA So Cal) regional, you kind of get away with having some weak spots in your golf bag. Here, it requires a strong game all around. You have to be good with every club.”

Adnams had eight bogeys and eight pars on the 6,637-yard course.

Jacob Soloman from Dublin won the individual competition with a 3-under-par 68. Westlake won its second consecutive state title, finishing with an 18-over-par 373.
