Foothill attack man Erik Adamson went out like he wanted to, as a champion.

The senior played a key role in helping the Knights win their fifth consecutive U.S. Lacrosse Division 1 South and fifth consecutive Southern Section title.

It was the end of a three-year varsity career for Adamson, the Register’s 2011 boys lacrosse player of the year.

“It’s just as sweet and it’s special because it’s my senior year,” Adamson said. “To go out with a win, is nice.”

Adamson has fond memories of the matches which helped Foothill continue its lacrosse supremacy, including one against Long Beach, N.Y., during a trip to New York over spring break.

“We went back east and kind of grew as a team,” Adamson said. “We reached our potential at the end.”

That’s what Adamson did this season.

He scored 76 goals and had 19 assists. He also had 43 groundballs and a .490 shooting percentage.

In the county title match against St. Margaret’s, he had five goals in the Knights’ 15-10 victory.

Adamson came back to score four goals in the Southern Section title match against Redondo Union.

“Erik is an incredible lacrosse talent who can do it all,” Foothill coach Jon Fox said. “He plays great defense on the ride and hustles to get open on the clears. He’s just a very complete player with high lacrosse IQ and has the ability to make his teammates better. He created matchup problems all year for opposition defenses.

“He played vs. the toughest competition this year every game and was the top goal scorer in state (according to Maxpreps). He proved to be a go-to scorer in clutch situations all year long. When the pressure was on he stayed cool and put the ball in the back of the net when we needed it most.”

Adamson has some options to play college lacrosse next year, but is undecided where he will wind up.

His coach has no doubt that Adamson will succeed on the next level.

“I’m extremely proud of Erik for his accomplishment in this sport and look forward to seeing him continue to play and develop in the college game,” Fox said.
