Scouting report: The Mustangs make the move from the Empire League to the Crestview League following an impressive campaign in 2013. The Mustangs return 10 starters, including Empire League MVP Jake Gigliotti. The dual-threat quarterback is a perfect fit for Coach Jeff Bailey’s triple-option offense. With running back Michael Mossett returning and senior receivers Connor Miller and Carter Kimberly back, the Mustangs’ skill position players make a formidable threat. The biggest question mark comes on the defensive side where Yorba Linda’s front seven is unproven. When you’re playing teams – Villa Park, Foothill and Esperanza – that rely on a physical style, you have to be solid up front. If the Mustangs can handle the brute nature of the Crestview League, they’ll compete for a postseason berth. If not, this could be a rough introduction.
